[Register Now!] 2023 IEEE SPS/ComSoc Summer School on Integrated Sensing and Communications
The next-generation wireless communication system is envisioned to continue transforming the wireless connection and move toward the full realization of the Internet of Things (IoT). With the deployment of massive antennas and the enhanced sensing capabilities brought by advanced communication infrastructure and intelligent devices, it is possible to combine sensing and communication. For example, with the help of high-accuracy localization and imaging, the reconstruction of the physical geometry environment or propagation environment can reduce the overhead of CSI training, enabling fast beam tracking and accurate beam alignment. On the other hand, the sensing results from the communication infrastructure can enhance the sensing range of conventional sensor networks and be applicable in vehicular networks. The idea of jointly considering sensing and communication has motivated the research direction called Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC). In the past few years, ISAC has emerged as a promising research direction in Signal Processing, Communications, and Information Theory societies, involving novel applications such as autonomous driving, healthcare, industrial IoT, drone-based services, and environment monitoring, to name a few. These use cases involve heterogeneous sensors like radars, cameras, and GPS, which are likely deployed in dense environments.
This summer school intends to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of ISAC principles, techniques, and cutting-edge research results. Considering the interdisciplinary nature of ISAC, the school plans to offer fundamental knowledge of radar signal processing, information theory of ISAC, advanced strategies for coexistence and co-design of sensing and communication, and real-world ISAC applications and platform demos. Except for a series of lectures, the summer school will also showcase the latest advancements in ISAC research, featuring talks by renowned experts in the field. By attending this summer school, participants will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of ISAC, explore potential research directions, and establish valuable connections with experts and peers in the field.
